| This was the only time Graham did any of his own work... |
We're pretty into science for the sake of science, but what if we could do a science experiment that ended up creating
something delicious?? Would that be just too much amazingness? Well my friend, if you answered "yes" to that, then I guess too much amazingness is what we had the other afternoon, when we made homemade ice cream in a bag.
I've been sitting on this project all summer, waiting for the perfect combination of a hot afternoon, some energy to burn, and me having remembered to purchase the necessary ingredients. We started out with half and half, vanilla, and some sugar in a small ziploc bag. We filled up a gallon size bag with ice and rock salt...
| "There's no way this is going to end well"- what Brendan is thinking. |
...and then we put the small bag into the bigger one. We had an added bonus in that Colleen was over and could help.
| Colleen helps set up the bags of ice. |
| Graham pretends he is going to put some elbow grease into this thing. |
In fact Graham charmed Colleen into doing pretty much all of the hard stuff for him.
| I will simply entertain you all by blowing bubbles and grinning! Fair trade? |
It took us a while, and I learned you really get what you pay for as far as "heavy duty freezer bags" go, but after some serious shaking....
"Shake it up!" -The Cars song I sang that no one else in these pictures had ever heard of.
...we were finally seeing some progress! It was almost time to enjoy the fruits of our labor.
| First we will pretend we are selling this ice cream from our shop, obviously. |
| Me too! |
Everyone Brendan was incredulous that we could take what looked like milk and turn it into ice cream with our bare hands, but lo and behold!
| I think we did it! |
| I am fairly certain we have done it! |
So now, the best part, obviously- taste test!!
| Well let's see... |
| Hmmm... |
| Ummmm... |
| Yes. |
| Yep. |
Obviously, as scientists, we needed to address our original hypothesis: were we, in fact able to create something truly delicious? I will let Brendan answer that one.
| Eureka! |
